Program description:

Students who enroll in Employment Preparation will acquire the knowledge, attitudes, practises, and skills necessary to succeed in entry-level employment training. This course is designed to be finished in 15 weeks. There will be options for students to finish this degree over a longer period of time while working part-time. Students examine their beliefs, interests, and opportunities before setting goals and creating a learning plan to develop crucial life, learning, and career skills. Reading, document usage, writing, numeracy, oral communication, thinking abilities (like problem solving, decision-making, critical thinking, job task planning, organisation, and finding/recalling information), collaboration with others, use of digital technology, and ongoing learning are all essential skills. The habits of a resilient lifestyle that support preparedness for entry-level employment will be examined by the students.The rate and depth of learning vary among students. To help them design and adhere to a learning plan, they will continually receive direction and assistance. Additionally, students will connect with resources and investigate chances for education, employment, and community involvement that represent their skills, interests, and values.

Course description:

The Occupations Launch program at Camosun College helps students develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to find and maintain stable occupation within entry-level work and/or non-paid community contributions. Students will explore the values, practices, and benefits of lifelong learning and connecting to communities through meaningful contributions and esteemed roles.

 

In addition, students will gain customer service, time management, communication, telephone,  and interview skills and learn to prepare a resume and job search.

ETP 0515 - Transition to Employment

ETP 052 - Community Service

ETP o53 - Leadership

 

Course requirements: 

  • Be over the age of 19 years old

  • Either submit a transcript or complete an assessment to determine the level of skill

  • Must participate in an admissions interview to determine suitability for the program and for working in an applied learning setting

  • Submit an application online through EducationPlaner or EducationPlanner if the student is currently attending high school in British Columbia or Yukon

  • Demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in the program

  • A Criminal Record Check may be required depending on the work placement

  • Must be able to navigate the community safely

Course description:

The Sector-Specific Employment Training program at Camosun College is designed to help students develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to prepare themselves for employment in a variety of entry-level work sectors. Students will also be introduced to the language, practices, and skills used in these sectors through applied learning and work experience placements.
