Course description:

The CICE program at Durham College is designed to give individuals with intellectual / development disabilities the opportunity to strengthen their academic and vocational skills. The modified programming allows students to access core courses including interpersonal communication, job skills, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and computer skills. It also boasts a variety of electives for all Durham College students, which allows CICE students to focus on their interests. These electives notably include Canadian Politics, Critical Thinking, Environmental Citizenship, Personality Psychology, and Social Media & Society. Additionally, students will have three separate field placement opportunities, which involve working with vulnerable people to enhance vocational skills and involvement in the community. 

 

✅Course requirements: 

  • Demonstration of academic needs that require program modification

  • Level of independence that precludes constant support

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) OR Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) with Individual Education Plan (IEP) OR Mature Student Status with Individual Education Plan (IEP) and two English credits

  • Note that it is recommended that students have laptops, and the specific recommendations can be found here

 

Application Process

  • Complete and submit an ontariocolleges.ca application form by the Equal Consideration Deadline, February 1.

  • Ensure to include your official transcript which must also be received by February 1.

  • Submit a completed CICE resume.

  • Attend an interview (in-person or virtual)
