Course description: The Workplace Training in Attitudes, Skills, and Knowledge (TASK) at the University of Fraser Valley is an eight-month pre-employment program for adult students with disabilities who want to explore employment opportunities, learn self-management, and prepare for a job in a safe and supportive classroom environment.

TASK students will participate in a series of employability workshops, including Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), FoodSafe, First Aid, and WorldHost. Students will also learn basic computer skills and get support as they explore career options, prepare their résumé, and rehearse for interviews. In addition, students will take part in three job placements to gain on-the-job experience with supportive employers in their community.

Once they are done the Workplace TASK program, students will have the skills and experience necessary to find employment. Additionally, students can pursue further studies at UFV or elsewhere to enhance their qualifications for employment.

Course requirements: 

  • Have a history of a disability (possible documentation: psycho-educational report, secondary school IEP, specialists report etc.), complete an interview with a UFV Workplace TASK instructor to determine suitability for the program.

  • Demonstrate essential independent self-management skills (e.g., ability to access public transport safely or to make other transportation arrangements).

  • Provide two references.
